10 Craft Ideas To Do With Cross Templates
Get inspired with these beautiful cross-themed crafts that are simple, easy, and a great way to showcase your spiritual side.
1. Make a Beautiful Shining Cross
This simple craft only requires some ordinary colored chalk and a black piece of construction paper.
A plain cross works well with this craft, but it can be done with any type! Simply cut the cross out and glue it to a black piece of construction paper.
Using multicolored chalk, make broad strokes coming out from behind the cutout. This creates the effect of a rainbow glowing from behind the cross.
2. Create a Stained Glass Heart
To make this beautiful craft, trace and cut out a large, plain cross from black, red, or dark blue cardstock.
Choose a heart cross template, cut it out, and glue it to the center of the other cross.
Next, cut tiny squares from ordinary construction paper in primary colors, such as red, blue, yellow, and green, and glue them inside the cross.
Color or paint the heart red, and you have a lovely stained glass heart cross.
3. Statement of Faith
To make this easy craft, begin with a template in which you can write words easily.
Using poster board or cardstock, create a background for the cross with orange, yellow, and gold puffy paint, glitter, craft paint, or anything to give it a shine.
The key is to make this part look like beams of light.
Position the cross in the middle and glue it fast. Then, use ordinary markers or craft paint to write “He is Risen,” “Jesus Saves,” or any message of faith you prefer!
4. Make a Beautiful Easter Ornament
To make this lovely Easter ornament, use a crown of thorns cross template, color it, cut it out, and set it aside.
Next, take an ordinary jar, big enough to accommodate the size cross you printed, and using masking tape, tear off small squares with which to cover the jar’s surface.
Take everyday shoe polish and lightly buff it over the masking tape with a cotton ball to create a perfect, stone-like texture.
Glue on the cross cutout, and you have a beautiful Easter ornament!
5. Colorful Cross Artwork
A fleury cross is perfect for this craft, and it’s a great project if you want to make framable art.
Decorate a background for the cross on separate paper. Cut the cross out and paste it into the center of the background. Next, place a thin layer of glue inside the cross itself.
Using small tufts of tissue paper in pastel colors, fill in the cross until no white is showing.
This creates a beautiful 3D texture, and your artwork can be framed and displayed anywhere!
6. Fun Yarn Cross Project
To complete this unique craft, print and cut out a large, plain cross.
Next, use a small hole punch to make holes, three in a row, down and across the cutout.
Using colored yarn, start at the top or bottom, and thread the yarn through the holes in any desired pattern.
When finished, you will have a beautiful textured cross to give as a gift, use as a fancy bookmark, or turn into a magnet!
7. Three Crosses on Calvary Card
To make this unique card for a keepsake or a gift, choose a three-cross template.
Next, using a piece of cardstock or poster board in the same dimensions, make a cutout the size of the middle cross.
Place this over the printed crosses so that it appears there is only one cross. When the card is opened, the other two are revealed.
Write a special message and decorate the area surrounding the crosses, and you have a beautiful card for any religious occasion.
8. A Fun Easter Cross Project
Begin this craft by cutting 7-8 strips from ordinary yellow construction paper. Glue them onto a white paper plate in a fanned-out pattern.
Color the Easter cross template with craft paint, cut it out, and glue it to the paper plate’s center, with the construction paper strips coming out from behind.
Cut another paper plate in half and place the halves lengthways over the artwork, securing the points at the bottom with paper fasteners.
When you slide the two sides apart–kind of like a hatching egg–your beautiful Easter cross will emerge.
9. Stained Glass Cross With a Message
To make this innovative craft, use the cross of your choice, and glue it over a handmade stained glass window.
You can make the window simply by tracing the appropriate shape on white paper and drawing the stained glass pieces with a black marker.
Color the various pieces, but leave three or four blank. For these, cut out the same shape from colorful construction paper, and tape them over the blank shapes.
In the blank space underneath, write special messages, scriptures, or any other words of wisdom to be revealed when the tabs are pulled up!
10. Make Pretty Easter Placemarkers
Small cross templates are perfect for making beautiful Easter place markers.
You can color or decorate them however you choose, as long as you leave approximately an inch of extra cardstock at the bottom.
Fold the extra paper over and glue it to a small square, cut from any stiff paper.
The cross will now stand on its own. Write the person’s name at the base, and set it at his or her place at the table. The person now has a nice Easter dinner memento!
